The Warped and Twisted America of Fundamentalist Christianity

By

We’ve seen fundamentalist Christianity’s imaginary war on Christianity taken to new heights over the past year. In a new column on TownHall.com, Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action, Matt “God will not be mocked” Barber, says Atheists hurt his feelings.

Barber is one of those guys who sees demons and Satan in every dark corner; he believes that marriage equality will lead to the persecution of Christians, apparently because Christians will no longer be allowed to persecute gays and lesbians, which is a bizarre sort of persecution, if you ask any relatively clear-headed observer (which Barber, manifestly, is not).

Let’s face it: That’s like saying making a law against the Spanish Inquisition persecutes the Catholic Church. But it’s nothing new for fundamentalists to feel persecuted because they have to live with the rest of us. In ancient times, Christian haters felt persecuted because we got to breathe the same air they did.

Melodramatically, he claims President Obama, in his imagination a “Marxist ideologue out to destroy America,” is burning both the Constitution and the Bible. In Barber’s fevered mind, Jimmy Carter is an apostate for backing Constitutional rights for ALL Americans.

In Matt Barber’s morally twisted world, his gay relative deserves to die from AIDS, because the wages of sin, he says, are death.

What I want to know is this: what are the wages of being a hateful asshat? And just to be clear, so no one can say I’m slandering Mr. Barber, based on
his own claim that he is not slandering President Obama when he tells the truth about him, I’m going to offer a definition of asshat from Urban Dictionary:
“Asshat: A person, of either gender, whose behavior displays such ignorance/obnoxiousness that you would like to make them wear their own ass as a hat.”
(That should cover me against charges of slander like a million times over, since, by that definition, Matt Barber is an asshat and then some.)

I mean, Jesus said to love your enemies and to turn the other cheek and all Matt Barber can manage is seething hate for everyone who isn’t like him. Matt Barber’s mind is so rotted and lacking in humanity that he thinks the Obama administration’s contraception mandate is like being forced to “kill your family.”

In other words, Matt Barber is one warped individual, as he proves here in a tendentious attempt to portray both atheists and Muslims as anti-American. Typically, it is Matt Barber who exhibits anti-American behavior by asserting that we all have to obey the dictates of his religion no matter what our own belief systems say.
